I never sew, so why do I have all this fabric?

*KLUNK!!!*- the sound of my head as it hit the keyboard last night as I was uploading all the pictures that went along with this tutorial. Several hours later, when I came to, I realized that this tutorial would make way more sense in the morning when I was coherent.

------------Morning!!

I used to sew. I loved to sew. I had an embroidery machine and a serger. I was sewing up a storm. I made my kids clothes and all kinds of crafts projects. Sew, sew, sew!!! I was at JoAnn's living the "she who dies with the most fabric wins" lifestyle and I was in the lead! Then it happened. My friend invited me to a stamping party. LOL! I thought, yeah right. I have no extra time for another hobby...

As the sewing machine and serger were on the counter at the UPS store, ebay receipt in hand, I waved goodbye and never looked back. Oh, I still have another sewing machine. I still have to sew those darn iron-on patches that never iron on. But my days of high-tech sewing have been replaced with a love for the feel of paper, wood and ink.

Now, I know I'm not alone. There are thousands of you out there that have a closet full of unassembled quilts too. But what do you do with all of that fabric now that you refuse to let go of you latest paper punch?

How about this:

I loved making this card and it relieved a little of my fabric hoarding guilt too! Here's how I made it:

Step 1. Pick some of your favorite fabric. If you don't hoard fabric, try JoAnn's and pick up a quarter flat. You can make a lot of cards with one quarter.

Step 2. Cut two squares just a little larger than the size of the punches you will be using.

Step 3. You can use any patterned, textured or any other kind of background card stock you want. Just make sure it's thick enough that the fabric doesn't show through when you lay it on top. I like to use Stampin' up Card stock. The other day, while I was at Michael's, I was feeling a little ill. I thought, it must be cuttlbug-itis so, I had to buy one of these nifty little cuttlebug embossing folders. You don't need a cuttlebug to use them. They work in the Big Shot too. I hear they also work in the Big Kick but I've never tried one. So, I went ahead and cuttlebugged my cardstock.

Step 4. The next thing I did was punch a Mega heart in my card stock.

Step 5. Then I punched a Super Jumbo Heart next to it. These punches will be available at www.stampingfreak.com very soon and they work great for weddings too!

Step 6. I love this spray adhesive by Elmers. It's repositionable which is great when working with fabric.

I spray it on my folded pink card.

Step 7. Then, I placed my fabric pieces just where I wanted them.

Step 8. Then, I place my punched piece on top.

Here's another look:

For the details, I wrapped some organdy ribbon around the card and tied a knot. Then, I added another piece of organdy ribbon to make the knot fuller. Then, with some silver cording, I tied an old key I found in a junk drawer. Get it, "Key to my heart?"

So this technique not only uses up old fabric but old junk drawer keys too!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Tomorrow, look for a new giveaway!!!! It's something fun to be excited about over the weekend! Have a wonderful day!
