Friendship Vineyards- the gift of wine

I am so excited to finally begin our pre-party previews!

Today's preview is a tutorial on one of the many ways to use a brand new stamp set that will be released on November 1st called "Festive Labels." (This set is so huge it would take at least four tins to store it! So, this one is packaged in a resealable plastic bag because it's just too big!! It's about the size of two "Stamps for a Cause" stamp sets. The equivalent of two large Stampin' Up stamp sets.)

"Festive Labels" helps you create beautiful gifts of food, wine, bubble bath and more to give to your friends, co-workers and neighbors.

To begin this project, select two bottles of your favorite wine. Open one and pour yourself a glass. Now you're really ready to begin. LOL!

I chose a Merlot mostly because I love the deep dark color and flavor and it's good for your heart! (Silly, I know.)

This project uses our new Gina K. Designs "Waterproof Labels," (available November 1st) that are exclusive to Gina K. Designs! These labels are repositionable but they NEVER peel off of glass, metal or plastic unless you want them to. They are a true miracle. We will have these in packs of thirty labels with a worksheet.

These labels can be punched out, die cut, trimmed, stamped, printed on with an ink jet printer, or anything else you can do with regular cardstock. But once you apply ink to them, even regular Stampin' Up dye ink, they will not run when they get wet. You can even soap them up, which makes them great for creating custom hand soap dispensers and bath and body products. I even poured a little Merlot wine on my finished project to see what would happen. Nothing happened. And, if you rub the wet label with a towel, it won't pill! They are amazing.

Back to the project.

I got my products assembled.

Then, I peeled one label off the sheet and placed it on the enclosed worksheet. This is a sheet that allows you to work with the label without getting any ink on any of the other labels. Ink won't stick to it so you can wipe it off when you are done. Your label will peel right off of this sheet when you are finished stamping it.

I used my Stampin' Up creamy caramel ink pad and just rubbed it face down all over my label.

The color really grabbed around the edges. That gave it a very antique look.

Then, I used the ornate border stamp in the set. I stamped it with cranberry ink. This stamp is huge!!!

Next, I chose one of the greetings to stamp inside. This one is my favorite for wine bottles. It says, "Friendship Vineyards, aged to perfection." I stamped it with my black Palette Ink.

I gave the label a minute or two to thoroughly dry and then I placed it right over the existing label that was on the wine bottle that I purchased.

I added a little hemp and a Stampin' Up piece of HodgePodge hardware and the bottle of wine is ready for gift giving.

Anyone can bring a bottle of wine to a party, but yours can be embellished from the heart.

Tomorrow I will post another sneak peek sample for preview day 2! I hope you enjoyed this project idea! Have a wonderful day!

Hugs,
Gina K.

That wine sounds great! I love talking about wines.. their color, the age, the way they're kept..and especially about the grapes! Truly a great Canadian story – legendary in fact. Six Canadian winemakers were ‘talking shop’ and the question was floated: ‘What if we aged wine in a barrel made with native Canadian oak?”. This idea peaked their interest and since barrels have never before been made with Canadian oak, the major challenge was to find an indigenous oak tree - found along the Grand River in Brantford, Ontario. Cut into staves, packed up in a hockey bag (a brand new one of course!) and shipped to a cooper (barrel maker), the novel idea became reality.

I truly don't understand the argument against windmills. Some people just have to be against things no matter the facts, I guess.

Mojave airport is a really fascinating and historic place, look it up sometime, I'm too tired to link to it right now.

Today we took the Metrolink to Burbank. The ride down was really interesting. We shared it with about 20 recent parolees from the Tehachapi prison. Nice.

Chaley sat beside a woman who let her in on all the secrets of how to get a job after getting out of prison, how to get high without anyone knowing, and where not to live in The AV. There were a lot of other characters on the train too, like the couple that rotated going to the bathroom with the shared backpack every few minutes, all we could figure was they were shooting something up. The guy had a Seal Team 6 hat on, providing some irony.

There was also the 50-ish hispanic woman I saw as I first sat down on the train, down the stairs on the first deck who wore a big pin of a Marine's dress blues portrait on her upper left breast. She made direct, long lasting eye contact first, so I gave her a quick informal salute and a wink, then gave that seat up to mom, since mom was facing backwards where she was. The Marine mom seemed pleased with the gesture, and also seemed to be in good spirits; I hoped that she was going to see her son, not going somewhere to mourn her son.

We had a great lunch at California Pizza Kitchen in Burbank, though. Rich had the BLT pizza, mom and dad shared a garlic chicken pizza and had half salads. Chaley had a salad, Kelly had a tandoori chicken mango pizza and I had one with normal stuff. Then we went to Ikea and the mall. I saw as I first sat down on the train, down the stairs on the first deck who wore a big pin of a Marine's dress blues portrait on her upper left breast. She made direct, long lasting eye contact first, so I gave her a quick informal salute and a wink, then gave that seat up to mom, since mom was facing backwards where she was. I appreciate it that you share something so useful with the readers of this blog.i never about it I made these mitten blockers out of No-Melt Mylar Template plastic. They are totally heat safe and can be used for both steam and wet blocking. If you don’t ever plan to steam block your mittens, you can use regular template plastic. At my local Jo-Ann store one 12" x 18" sheet of the No-Melt Template Plastic costs $4.29, and a regular plastic sheet costs $3.29. If you can’t find a store that carries quilting supplies, you can easily make a mitten blocker from cardboard wrapped in packing tape to make it waterproof. This is the way I made my first mitten blocker and it worked just as well as my new plastic one!

One sheet of plastic can be made into three adult sized mitten blockers – perfect for if you like making mittens for members of your family or as gifts. It’s a good idea to make mitten blockers for each of the main people you like to make mittens for, this way you know they’ll always be the perfect fit. Remember, you only need one blocker in each size because you can block your first mitten while knitting the second! So here’s how you make them…Make an outline around your hand tracing that is more "mitten shaped." My outline is about ¼" outside my original tracing. I left a little extra room above the tips of my fingers. Skip this step if your tracing was of an actual mitten. Draw a line separating the thumb from the rest of the hand.5. Cut out your mitten shape and the round circles in the center of your template. Smooth cuts are best. If there are any rough or jagged edges one the outside of your template they might snag your mitten. You can use some fine grit sandpaper to get out any little rough bits if needed.

Round off any pointed edges of your mitten blocker, like at the base of the thumb and at the cuff to prevent snagging.

You're finished! Now your mittens will always fit perfectly! regular template plastic.
