CHA part 2

I had a fabulous dinner last night with Nichole, Emily and Nicky. We went to this fun little Italian place and the food was great. I have to say that these women are like sisters to me and I was so glad to be able to finally put my arms around them. They inspire me with their energy and creativity. I didn't fall into bed until after midnight and after walking the show all day, I just didn't have the energy to write a post. So I thought I would write one this morning before I leave for home.
.  .  .  .  .
Speaking of women who inspire me, I had the opportunity to talk with Heidi Swapp. Heidi was one of the first blogs I ever read.

Years ago, I read this book- Love your Handwriting. It's a fabulous book for those of you who like to hand-write greetings on your cards and hand-journal on your scrapbook pages.

In Heidi's book, I learned that we are not limited to one "font." (In school, my teachers would get frustrated with me because I liked to change my handwriting all the time. I was always told that I needed to find one and stick with it. LOL!) Heidi's book was so encouraging and helped me to realize that writing different ways is a good thing.

That advice flowed over into my drawing and allowed me to draw both a silly crab or pig and pretty flowers and not feel limited by thinking that I should only have one distinct "Gina K. style." Heidi has been a great influence on me and has helped me grow immensely as an artist.

Another woman who I was thrilled to finally meet in person was Ali Edwards.

I bumped into Ali at the hotel and had a chance to thank her personally for her help when we launched the Autism stamp set.

Ali Edwards has been such an inspiration to me in so many ways. Of course, there are no words to describe this woman's talent. Maybe "jaw-dropping" would work. But one of things that drew me to Ali was her drive to make a difference.

When I started my stamp company, my goal was to create stamps that would help make a difference to those in need. I wasn't sure how but I knew that somehow, it would come to pass. When Erika Martin approached me with the idea of drawing stamps to raise money for Autism, I began my search to learn more. That search brought me to Ali's blog where she was raising thousands of dollars for Autism Speaks.

I was so impressed with the way this woman was using her talents to help so I contacted Ali and she was so sweet and kind. She was so interested in what I was doing and then she directed people through one of her blog posts to my site to help build sales. In such a short time we were able to send a huge check to Autism Speaks and it was truly the birth of Stamps for a Cause.

I am so lucky to be able to finally get a chance to thank these women for their inspiration. That was one of the best parts of the CHA for me. (I will post more CHA photos after our new release.)

So guess what tomorrow is?
It's day one of our PREVIEW PARTY!!!! Woo-hoo!!!
Are you ready to be blown away by what our art team has created for you? You have to stop back tomorrow and see sneak peek of a very special stamp set created by Asela Hopkins to launch the celebration!

That is a question impossible to answer in a comment box!! There are so many bloggers that inspire me every day. I guess, if there's one woman that always makes me *gasp*, it's Nichole Heady. I've always been inspired by the patience in her designs and her clean style. She seems genuinely sweet and giving and that shows in her projects.

There have been many people and things that have inspired me throughout the years, but none on a consistnet basis like my Mom. She raised 4 children on her own while holding down a full time job. She continues to inspire me even though she is 78 years of age as she helps others in many ways. She is encouraging, helpful and at times just "there". There is so much more I could say.

I guess I would have to say that stamp catalogs inspired me the most way back when there were no blogs around yet. Sadly, I think I do more blog surfing these days than actually creating. When I think of the hundreds of cards I had posted on a site I belonged to way back, most of my inspiration came from my students and those same catalogs, like the Hero Arts catalog. There is nothing like the positive feedback you get on the net to inspire you to make more creations and inspire your readers. I don't have a blog but I have a list of blogs I read every day and yours is pretty much at the top of the list. Thank you for sharing your huge talent with everyone.

I never in a million years considered myself an artist! I always thought being an artist meant having a studio (not a dining room table), owning a gallery (not a huge file folder of work), having tons of intellectual friends (not a gaggle of giggling women) and most of all I thought an artist meant going to art school (not youtub-ing technique videos late at night)! I never considered stamping, scrapbooking or collage an artist's trade until I started reading all of Claudine Hellmuth's stuff! That woman ROCKS!!! And, of course that led to learning about other artists, like Tim Holtz. That's when I began thinking, this thing I'm doing on my dining room table ain't your mama's craft- it's real art!!! I have the tools of an artist, so why can't I call it art? Why can't I call myself an artist? Claudine Hellmuth helped me realize my creative dreams...and that I am an artist in my own right!

I am inspired by a number of people. The first person is my mom. 14 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is now a survivor. It seemed as if she never even gave the cancer a choice. A few years ago when we lost my dad unexpectedly, that strength and renewed determination kept her going. Never a day goes by when I don't look at her and hope to be half the women she is.

The next person to inspire me is my husband. My husband has to be the most amazing and determined man I have ever met. Many years ago we dated, then parted as friends. 7 years ago, we remet, and married. We just celebrated our 6 year anniversary. 6 months before our wedding, I woke up unable to speak coherently, walk without losing my balance or understand what people were saying to me. The doctors were baffeled.
3 days before our wedding one dr. said to my husband, she has ALS- (Lou Gehrigs disease). You need to call off this wedding and move on, she is going to be in a nursing home within 3 years.
My husband looked at the dr. and said, If I have to carry her down the isle...I will, If I have to hold her up...I will, if I have to hold the sign that says "I DO" for her...I will.
Well, the day went off with a few hitches but all and all, I made it.
And today, 6 years and 1 month to the day later, as we are looking for what is still wrong, my husband loves me just as I am. How can a man who does this on a daily basis, never knowing if I am going to be able to walk or talk or understand things each morning not inspire me to keep fighting and looking. How can he not inspire to love like there is no tomorrow, and how can he not inspire me to give of myself, the way he has unselfishly given of himself for the past 6 years????

    To me...that is inspiration.

So many people have inspired me. Since finding SCS my creativity has taken off. I try to really examine the creations that blow me away to figure out what really catches my eye and that has helped me to expand. I also receive inspiration from my boyfriend. Before I met him all of my creations were very earthy colors. He has challenged me to use brighter colors. That took me out of my comfort zone for a while, but now I love using bright colors. I am also inspired by wonderful caring people as yourself, Gina. The owners of the comapanies represented on SCS are so wonderful and I am happy to be here and witness all of these companies grow. It is a great inspiration to me to continue with this hobby.

I can't wait to see what you have for us in the next release.

Wow what a tough question to answer! I would have to say my family inspires me - my grandmothers in particular. One raised 9 children and somehow still found time to create - I was blessed enough to get one of her pieces when she passed away and when I need a little boost to create I pull it out and it never takes long for ideas to flow. My other grandmother grew up during the war in germany and threw raising her daughter and risking her own life to come to Canada and surviving 50 years of abuse - she still smiles everyday and strives to help those around her - never in my life do I recall her complaining or looking for pitty - she is my greatest source of strength when I need it most.

For inspiration of life in general I must say it is my daughter. In 2000 she was in a serious accident which left her paralyzed until surgery.... She was kissed by angels and is now working for a hospice company and schedules nurses who give relief to families of dying patients. When I think of how hard she worked to learn to walk again it makes me smile. I was so lucky that she allowed me to be part of the process. I have not taken anything for granted since and I know how important it is to scrap and record the little things in life. As far as a scrap style I love Elsie Flannigan's whimsical style.

But this is something that is relaxing to me and that I truly love to do. I am determined to get better at this and learn to love every project that I create and design. I motivate myself to learn the tricks and gain creativity by spending countless hours on your website, SCS, and the ton of blogs that I visit on a daily basis. Since I am known to start something and not finish (jewelry-making, glass painting, knitting, sewing)just to name a few, I am proud of myself for not giving up on stamping and being as excited about it today as I was 7 months ago.
Keep up the good work me!!!

Even though I don't meet weekly with my local friends I now have stamper friends 24 x7 all over the globe due to SCS and the many blogs I love to visit. She was an artist at heart having done numerous paintings and sketches. She had no internet nor community of artists with like interests. She was self-taught and held a true appreciation of the "Old Masters". She taught me to try anything and to use my God-given gifts to share with others. She had a strong faith and true love for family, friends and all of mankind. I miss her very much, but know that she will always be a strong influence in my life.

The person who inspires me the most is my older sister. We lost our mother when she was six and I was only 6 1/2 mos. She was like a mother to me. She made it through physical & mental abuse from our 1st stepmother, the loss of her first husband when her children were 2 and 3, along with a complete breakdown at that time. She has had many health problems in the last 5 yrs. and is currently fighting colon & liver cancer. And she just lost her oldest daughter (47 yrs. old) unexpectedly on July 5th. She has a strong believe in God and just keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny. She has always been there for me and I look up to her with the greatest admiration!
    Thank you,
    Linda Cichowski

I would say my inspiration comes from two sources- my parents and men and women from the Bible. To draw lessons and gain wisdom from their challenges and how they responded gives me the strength and wisdom to do the same.

It is hard to just come up with just one person who inspires me as there are so many. One friend inparticular seems to always be there even if it is on the end of the telephone. The last four years have been really difficult with my dear husband having a mental breakdown and being apart for a year as he was in the UK I was in the states because of immagration, and she was such a precious "shoulder" to lean on. Her name is Beth Fisher and a dear dear sweet friend.

Who inspires me? From a stamping perspective - I am inspired by Lauren Meader, Nichole Heady, the GK DT oh and tons of great stampers on SCS.

On a more personal level, I am inspired by my parents. They both worked hard - one outside the home and one inside to provide their family with the best they could give - family vacations, day trips to nearby lakes for picnics and by spending time talking to us. I hope that I am following in their footsteps in being an inspiration to my children.

My mom has been a huge source of inspiration to me. She was an immensely creative woman worked in fabric, paint and photography. She worked hard to find her own voice in her work and when working on something for someone else, would put much thought into personalizing the gift to the individual, by color or texture or style. That essence translates well accross all mediums and I try hard to follow her example. Thanks for offering the great prize.

wow! there are so many creative genuises out there that inspire me but if I HAVE to pick one I guess it is Nichole Heady. I love her simple and elegant style and it is one that I should try to follow more often I suppose. I also like that she is so diverse in the type of crafts that she does- sews, cooks, designs stamps and creates with those stamps.

I would have to say that it's a tie between Melanie and Nicole.. I adore those too cute animals that Melanie designs and I love Papertrey.. There's so much talent between those two ladies that they shine like the sun.

I have a lot of blogs that I check daily - but my source of craft inspiration is from my mom. She ALWAYS had a craft going when I was growing up. Sewing, tatting, crocheting, paper crafts - ANYTHING you want, she can do! I really look up to my mom for that - she raised 3 kids and was at home doing stuff with us all the time!
She also pushed me to try everything and do what I loved! Photography, paper crafts and scrapbooking became my love first - stamping is an added bonus for me now!

My mother has always inspired me. Her handwriting is beautiful, her eye for design is intuitive, her style is timeless. But, I have to admit, when it comes to crafting, anytime I see something on your blog, I immediately want to be able to do something similar, so I do get a lot of inspiration from you, GinaK!

I try to take inspiration from many sources, so as not to limit myself. If I had to choose a couple of people who inspire me, I would say Sharon Johnson of No Time to Stamp? and Kristina Werner. I like their elegant and clean and simple styles, respectively!

I had to sleep on this. I am inspired by many people, however, I think I am most grateful for the inspiration my children offer. They inspire me to see the world through rose-tinted glasses and spend more time dwelling on hopes and dreams. They also inspire me to spend each day living, rather than waiting for life to happen to me. I am certainly a richer person for knowing them!
