Preview Day 1- Flowers for Daisy
I always get so excited when we are ready to release new stamp sets! But when we do a release like this one, I am completely over the top. I could hardly contain myself at the CHA!
Yesterday, I asked you to tell me who inspires you. I loved reading your answers especially the ones where people mentioned the inspiration of a special friend. Friends are family we choose.
Not all that long ago, Asela Hopkins called me to discuss something that was very important to her. One of her close friends, Daisy, was and still is fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She wanted to do something. She wanted to somehow make a difference for Daisy. But what could she do? We discussed many possibilities and Asela decided that she wanted to draw a stamp set in honor of her friend who she loves dearly.
Flowers for Daisy

"Flowers for Daisy" is the newest stamp set by Asela Hopkins. It's a gorgeous set of beautiful daisy images and sayings. Each of the sayings were carefully chosen by Asela. Several of them are Daisy's favorite bible verses. These saying will make great cards of encouragement, friendship and love.
$4.00 of every retail set sold will go to the American Cancer Society until the end of August through a donation of part of the proceeds from both Asela Hopkins and Gina K. Designs.
Cancer has touched the lives of so many. Everyone knows someone who has suffered with cancer in some way. It's so hard to see the lives of family and friends get turned upside down with this horrible disease but you can help make a difference by purchasing this beautiful stamp set.

Color it
I thought you might like to see the creation of this bookmark.
I began with the single daisy stamp from "Flowers for Daisy" along with one of my new favorite inks, Momento. This is the BEST ink for Copic Marker coloring. Marianne from Copic recommended it and I bought some. I absolutely loved it so I bought about 24 of their colors. You don't have to heat set it. I LOVE that!!! The color I used for this project is London Fog. I didn't want to go with black because I wanted it to stay softer.

I colored the petals with a pale yellow maker. I've added the color number to the photo to help you if you are trying to achieve the same look.
(Note: edited to add that all of the marker colors should begin with YR not VR. Please make a note of that if you print the tutorial or save it to use later.)

Keep in mind that I did not begin with white card stock. I used Stampin' Up card stock that is a natural color with a fleck in it. You won't get the true color of the marker like you would on white, but that's okay. I really wanted a softer look.

Then, using an orange, I added some depth to the petal. I haven't blended it yet. I just added a few lines coming from the flower center down each petal.

I added a peach color to the centers of the flowers.

If you look closely at the right side, you will see the unblended flowers. On the left side, you will see the top flower after I blended it. The way I blended the top left flower was by going back to the first pale yellow and going over the entire petal until every petal looked shaded. That smooths out the orange lines and makes them softer.

I did the same thing here with the centers. I went back over the entire thing with the peach color. It gives you lots of nice depth.

Now I couldn't spend the weekend with Tim Holtz and not distress everything I see, right? LOL! (I can't tell you how much I enjoyed his demonstrations all weekend. He is so talented.) I sponged on some Old Paper distress ink to the edges and the surface.

I stamped my greeting on some vellum paper that was cut to fit over the daisy images. I used Stazon ink in black.

I added some Basic Grey Fibers, then I tied through a punched hole. You can leave the book mark this way, or you can tear the edge and sponge along it. In my final shot, you can see I tore the edge and added an old key I found in a draw with more fibers. I love the look of the old keys. We have quite a few Tim Holtz keys coming soon.

This old key is cool because it belongs to a Master Lock and it says "MASTER" printed on it. The greeting reads, "My salvation and my honor depend on God: He is my mighty rock, my refuge." Psalms 62:7
I always think of God as my "Master" so the key has significant meaning to me.
I am really exited for you to see the entire set at the release party!

I think I'm going to cry. How precious of Asela to do this for Daisy! And how wonderful of you to do this for the ACS! Until about a year ago our closest family had been spared the pain of cancer. Then my father-in-law was diagnosed last summer and died in February. No one is immune. What a blessing this will be to those hurting from this horrid disease called cancer.
On a light note, I also might cry because no one has their samples up yet! LOL!

Gorgeous set---I'd love to win. ACS is a great charity.

I love this set. It would be great to use to make bookmarks for my women's bible study group. The verse makes it SO appropriate and wonderful.

Beautiful. And such a worthy cause. I wish they had had something like that going when my niece was fighting cancer. Unfortunately we lost her, but so many more are surviving now because of the causes that help research.
And of course we must get all the credit to our Lord God, our Master. He makes it all possible.
Thanks so much for sharing this.

What a wonderful thing for Asela to do. I'm just one year out from breast cancer and know that you have to fight the good fight with a positive attitude. The daisy is just perfect and I know will mean a lot to her friend, Daisy! Also, thank you for the very nice coloring tutorial!

This is so beautiful. I really like the natural look of the daisy and I can never get enough Bible verse stamps. I think this is going to be one of those must-have sets for me, and I love that some of the proceeds go towards cancer research. I think everyone's life has been touched by someone they know who has or has had cancer. This is such a beautiful gesture by both you and Asela. Thank you.

My dear friend at work is battling breast cancer. We are nurses, and she is my inspiration in a world of illness and death. As we care for our patients, she has progressed from wearing her bandana on her bald head to having a sweet gray covering that we all have to cradle thruout the day. She still takes radiation treatments every day at three. She never complains and refuses to let us feel sorry for her. I've been looking for something to make for her, and this is it. Even if I don't win, thank you for making such an inspired stamp set to touch those that we love. Thank you.

This set really hits home for me. Daisies are my favorite flower and I lost my mom Sept. 30, 2006 to cancer after a long battle. She was an amazing woman and never waivered in her faith in God to heal her. She had always said that she wanted to grow old and become a woman that radiated with the love of God. Although she was only 53 when she died, she did just that! It was amazing how many lives, including mine, she touched. She and the testimonies like Daisy are my inspiration. I hope to someday become a fraction of the woman my mother had become. Thank you so much for creating this set.

I'm excited about this set because I have several friends who have gone through brest cancer in the recent past. It's nice to know there is now a set specifically for them.
My brother is in the final stages of colo-rectal cancer, and he's only 43 with a wife and two young boys. It is heart-wrenching to see what he's been going through, but especially what it is doing to his family. Thankfully they all have a strong faith on the one true God, so our peace is in Him.
Thanks.

I failed to mention one lady online I found her website recently. Sue Nelson @ Heartprints.net. She inspired me as well with her work. From reading her website she doesn't sell her cards, she makes them for a not for profit organ. but I can't seem to remember which one. That is very kind of her to do that. Great artist she is. She sent me some sample cardstock without me even asking the other week, just to help me get started and show me what she uses.

What a wonderful tribute to Daisy.
I would buy this set immediately if it was available tonight. I have several friends whose lives have been touched by cancer, and I would love to make cards for them using this set. Being a breast cancer survivor myself, I know how the little things, such as a card from a friend, mean so much.
Thank you also for the donation to finding a cure for this disease. Every little bit helps with this fight to end
cancer forever.

What a beautiful set. Thank you for your generosity to the various charitable organizations you support through sales of your sets. Just last week a good friend of mine who was 32 died from a rare form of brain cancer. What a marvelous thing if we could conquer this terrible disease in all its forms.

I've recently started stamping again, and after looking at boodles of blogs, I decided to start my own. I've only posted one comment so far, but it happens to be about losing my dad to lung cancer. What a gift Asela gave her friend to honor her with this stamp set. It would be a great addition to my stamp collection!

Gina,on Monday my daughter's best friend's mother was layed to rest at the young age of 37 - taken far too early by cancer. Suzy left behind her beautiful spririt, along with her two small children. What a beautiful set of stamps. I love Daisies (my daughter's name!!) and I stamp with flowers a lot. I would be most proud to use this set, given the story behind them, and I am glad that Daisy is here fighting her illness and able to see what she has inspired. Thank you.

The stamp is beautiful and a lovely tribute to Daisy. I love dasies after the loss of a 2 year old I dreamed of him every night in a field of daises and that dream left me forever when God blessed us with a baby boy. Daisies are precious tome. I am praying for Daisy!

First off I have to say that I have added Daisy to my daily thoughts and prayers. Enduring many loved ones battle with cancer I know we all need the prayers for added strength and healing we can get.
Second - I adore this set. I just found Gina K designs through this set from the Taylored Expressions blog.
Third - your work is amazing. Thank you for the tutorial on how to make the bookmark. I've just gotten into Copic markers in the last 3 1/2 weeks and I've been trying to figure out how everyone gets the fabulous shading effect - so far mine have NOT come out looking to hot. This tutorial brought to light what I need to do in order to create the shaded effects without the lines.
Thank you so much!!!

My best friend's sister has battled cancer for the last year, and is now dying. Hospice is in place, and my heart is heavy for Debbie as she prepares to say goodbye to Janet. Thank you for this stamp release. It is definitely in God's timing! No one knows what to do in times like this, except pray. You have given us a treasure that will bless me and many others who are touched by cancer. Thank you!

WOW - Another wonderful set for a great cause. We have been touch by cancer in my family - Everyone of my moms siblings that has passed away was battling cancer. One form or another. This past year my 14 year old Daughter was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma - Thyroid Cancer. It has been quite a year but Praise God - it is a curable cancer and He carried her through this with such grace. Looking back and as we go forward we will forever be changed.
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart" and "Be still and know that I am God" were two verses that stuck with me.
Thanks for all the stamps for a cause!
You are doing such a wonderful thing with this line. May you be blessed each and every day.

Another beautiful set and another wonderful cause. Just wondering though, does Psalm have an "s" at the end of it? My NIV version does not say Psalms, it says Psalm. Thanks again for encouraging stampers to give to so many worthwhile organizations.

Beautiful bookmark for a deserving cause. Love the colors and the simple embellishments.
This is my first time here and I'm wondering how to order the Flowers for Daisy stamp set...I'm quite computer-challenged, so any help from anyone will be appreciated. Also, are the stamps mounted on wooden blocks like SU?
Krystal, you are correct about the spelling of Psalm in the NIV; however, in our old RSV Bibles it is Psalms. I never noticed that change before. Curious.

OMGosh this set is so sweet! And could it be any more perfect? Daisies are my faves and I don't know anyone who hasn't been affected by Cancer in some way!!! As always Gina your heart is so big!
