Preview Day 3- Whimsical Autumn
When I first started Gina K. Designs, it was me, a sketch book and a pen.
I hadn't even considered the possibility of having anyone else illustrate stamps for my company. After all, they were "Gina K." designs.
But then I had the pleasure of meeting Carolyn King. Carolyn had drawn a few images that she thought would work as stamps and she contacted me.
I wasn't even sure what to say at first but when I saw her darling images, I knew she would fit right in. I HAD to make her sweet drawings into rubber. Plus, she's originally from Philadelphia and so am I. We had that "Philly cheese steak" kind of connection. LOL!
This Friday, Carolyn is about to release her fourth Gina K. Designs stamp set and I couldn't be more excited about these images!
Before I show you the first peek, I wanted to let you in on something about this set.
This is a photo of Carolyn and her Grandmother. Earlier this summer, Carolyn's sweet grandmother passed away. She told me that her Grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's disease. For those of you who have watched a loved one slowly slip away from the terrible disease, you know what Carolyn, her family and her beloved Grandmother went through.
Carolyn asked me to have this statement printed on the inserts of her new stamp set and I wanted to share it here with you today.
"100% of my proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association in my grandmother's memory." Carolyn King

I love the feel of this new stamp set called "Whimsical Autumn." Don't those apples look good enough to eat? When I first saw this set, I imagined myself with my little ones, all bundled up on a brisk autumn morning headed out for the pumpkin patch.
This set contains 12 images. Priced at only $15.95, it is a fabulous addition to your Autumn collection and the images work for just about any occasion.
I used Copic markers to color all of the images on this card. To make the background paper, I used some white core DCWV brown card stock and ran it through my cuttlebug. Then, using some sand paper, I distressed it and rubbed some metallic rub-on paste in our new color combo that we will be releasing on Friday night!
This new set of metallic rub-on paste contains cranberry red for Christmas, bright copper that is absolutely gorgeous, holiday green, bright silver, bright gold, deep plum purple and turquoise blue. This is a great compliment to the first set we currently carry.
The next project uses two more of my favorites from this set.
Nothing says Autumn like a vase full of pussy willows. I colored the images using Copic markers and I used the Janome Sew-mini sewing machine to add some stitching. I cut out and embossed the vase and greeting with nestabilities.
Again, I used the new metallic rub-on paste to highlight all of the embossed edges.
Do you like that paper? That is from another patterned paper pack that we will be releasing on Friday night called "Lucky n' Love." You will love the patterns and textures of this 6 X 6 double sided paper pack. I can't wait to show it all to you!

That is amazing! I love Cammie's work and it is so touching to hear that she is donating ALL of her proceeds to this cause! I will definitely be getting this set! This is truly wonderful. My grandfather suffered and died from this disease and we had to move him into our home so that he could have constant care. It was a struggle for us all but we know that he is so much happier now!

Thank you so much for supporting this wonderful cause. My father (who is only 57) has Alzheimer's and it is heartbreaking to watch the amazing man who raised me slowly slip away and be replaced by a stranger. Twice a year I host a week-long "Stampin' Out Alzheimer's" event through my blog with lots of stamping and scrapbooking challenges and blog candy give-aways. I recommend (but don't require) a $5 donation to the Alzheimer's Association from each participant. It always touches my heart to see others supporting this cause as well. Thank you!

I have to share a dorky moment, though. I saw the name of the set as whimsical AUTISM! Indeed, the autism in this house in autumn and every other season can be quite whimsical!

We are all too quickly loosing my grandfather to Alzheimer's as well. In the year since he's been diagnosed, he's not even the same man. Thank you for supporting such a worthy cause. I truly appreciate it.

I never cease to be amazed at how many people's lives are being touched by the cross of disease - whether they themselves struggle with the disease, or they are supporting a loved one with love and prayer. My prayer is that all remember that we do not struggle and suffer alone - our suffering IS our salvation. His comfort, strength and peace to all! My grandmother also has alzheimers.

My heart goes out to Carolyn. My husband's grandmother passed away from Alzheimer's and it's incredibly hard to watch someone you love go through that. I appreciate you both for donating the proceeds of this stamp set to the Alzheimer's association. I only recently discovered your blog (thanks to your tutorial on Nesties) and really enjoy it! These cards are fantastic but I really love the pussy willow one. Seeing it makes me feel warm and fuzzy - the browns and blues remind me how much I love the cool chill of Autumn. Thanks for sharing your work with me this way. I just have to have that squirrel! Everyday I take my dog outside & he plays with all the squirrels in our backyard. It so reminds me of him!

My brother was originally diagnosed with alzheimer's but has now been diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia along with Parkinson's Disease and MS. He is only 67 but has been in a nursing home for almost a year. He had to take early retirement at age 62 as he could no longer function at his job as a diesel mechanic. He barely remembers me anymore. So sad.

Iwould love that new set by Carolyn as I know what she went through. We are going through the same thing with my mother-in-law who lives with us. I will definitely be purchasing this set and am thrilled to see that donations will go to the Alzheimer's Association. My mother is suffering from Alzheimer's. Last year my sister and I participated in the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk but are unable to participate this year.
I love the squirrel. It reminds me of my dad who passed away 5 years ago. He used to feed the squirrels and even had one that would sit on his knee while he was being fed.

My grandmother passed away from this disease two years ago. My family misses her dearly, but we know that her mind is clear and she has her memories back in heaven. What a beautiful set. This one will be finding it's way into my collection for sure!

Carolyn's little squirrel is so adorable, and the basket of apples takes me back to my childhood, going apple picking with my family. I know all too well, the heartbreak of Alzheimers. My Mom's had it for a long time and ..... it is such a theif of life... It robs not only the person themself but those that love them!

I want to thank Carolyn for her profit donation to Alzheimers. What a wonderful way to honor her grandmother!! I watched my mother slip away from us due to this disease. It's a terrible thing for a person to lose all their wonderful memories and also terrible for the family to watch it happen and know there is nothing you can do. If for no other reason than to support Caroline's donation, I will be purchasing this set. (But I do love it, so that is good!!!)

That vase is sooo cute! I love that the proceeds go to something useful. I've worked in nursing homes and it is very difficult to see those who suffer like that. It's a wonderful thing to give back.

Hi Gina! I would love to have this set... My husband's best friend just lost his mom a few months ago, and she had had Alzheimers for the last 11 or 12 years. The saddest thing is that his kids never got to know their grandma before she got sick since the oldest is only 13.

My grandmother also had Alzheimer's. I was holding her hand when she passed. She had been in the nursing home for over 10 years, perfectly healthy but not knowing anything that went on around her. That is the saddest disease, and I pledged my support to Alzheimer's Association many years ago. Thank you, Carolyn.

Autumn...my favorite time of the year but we don't have squirrels or apple trees so the next best things are your stamp sets which are better than the real things for me. Your card is perfect!

Gina, these new stamps are so cute. But the reason behind for the creation of the stamps is so loving and kind. Alzheimer's is such a devastating disease. My heart/prayers goes out to all who are affected by it.

I also watched my best friend, my beloved grandmother lose her memories of her life to this disease and I feel I truly lost her 4 years before she actually passed away due to watching her forget about everthing and everyone she loved. I am so touched this set is for such a good cause. blessings to you both

This cause is near and dear to my heart. My grandmother had Alzheimers. I also work with Elders and their families everyday who struggle with this awful disease. I would love to win this adorable set, but if I don't I will be purchasing it for sure. Thanks for this chance

Cute,cute sets. I can appreciate the horrible disease Alzheimers. My father-in-law was suffering with it when he passed away. It is terrible. My heart goes out to Carolyn.

I'm sitting here eating Peanut butter out of the jar and remembered how my gramma would put PB on a cookie and feed it to the little squirrel who visited her back porch every day. My grampa would get so mad as he thought she might get bit. Guess its why I fell in love with squirrels and leave them peanuts (and the dogs chase them) but the squirrel always wins!

These stamps are great---makes one remember sweeter, easier times--which bring back good memories.Anything with little animals make me feel good.
My prayers go out to her and her family in the loss of her "Granny". It's hard when those we always went to for advice, no longer remember us. Her mind is now perfectly clear---remember that.
