World Card Making Day with Gina K. Designs

I am so excited that tomorrow is World Card Making Day! I know so many companies are doing different things to promote this special day.
You know by now that at Gina K. Designs, we are always looking for ways to make a difference and WCMD is the perfect day to do just that!
We're calling our promotion- "Make a card & make a difference."
Here's how it works.
Take a little time tomorrow to make a few holiday cards. Make them simple and not too bulky. Then, compose a quick message on a post-it note or separate piece of paper to someone in the military who may not be home for the holidays this year.

On my note, I said, "Thank you so much for your service. Please know we are praying for your safe return. Here is a card I created for you. Feel free to use it to send a note to your loved ones at home this holiday season."
(Verbiage courtesy of Carolyn King- thanks Cammie! Beautifully said!)

Then, slip the note inside the card with an extra folded envelope for them to use. Place that inside another envelope. Then, put the whole thing in a bigger envelope and send it to:
Gina K. Designs
4701 Dale-Curtin Drive
McFarland, WI 53558

Carolyn King's husband is in the military and he will provide an address for us to send this huge box of holiday cards to our troops in Iraq.
What a wonderful way to brighten up the day of someone who is serving our country and is far away from home. And how nice for them that they get to send a card home to their wife, husband, child, Mom and Dad or anyone else they miss so much.
Being far from home is always so much harder for our military and their families during the holidays. This is a way to help them connect and that's what card making is all about- connecting with others.
Rewards for you!
Please include your name, address, phone number and email address with your cards on a separate piece of paper.
We will give you one entry for every card you send and you will be entered in a huge drawing for prizes galore. Deadline for receiving cards is October 30th. Winners will be announced on November 1st.
Here is what you could win!
1 $250 shopping spree at Gina K. Designs
1 Box of Copic Ciao makers of your choice
3 $50.00 Gift Certificates for Gina K. Designs stamps
5 Stamp sets
10 Opportunities to win! And if you send 20 cards, you get your name tossed in the pot 20 times!
It's that easy!
So share your love of card making on this World Card Making Day.
Make a card and together, we can make a difference!
Hugs,
Gina K.

What a wonderful way to thank our troops. Thanks for organizing this!

I was thrilled, too! I bought them in a cool little store in Lancaster, PA while I was visiting my son's future in-laws. I think they are made by DRS cuz here's what's on them:
06DRS #7D530
06DRS #24H529
I think it must mean they were made in 2006........good luck!

oh super, thanks so much!!! Kathy, I've seen DRS before, but what do the initials stand for? do you know? lol, I'm clueless!!! lol

I am very touched when folks do this because my step-son was killed at the beginning of the war. April 7, 2003. He loved what he did and he wanted to be there. So when others take the time to send cards ( I did last year ) for them or to send home - it is a blessing. More than one will be blessed.
Thank you! And Everyone who does this.
Blessings

Thanks so much for doing this. My son is in the Army but he's in training in Texas and will be home for Christmas. I can't imagine how difficult it is to be separated at Christmas. I don't have Hanukkah cards, but I could do some generic season's greetings cards umm maybe... sometimes my cards just don't come out all that well.

This is great..Our church stamping group has been making cards like this to send to the troops so they can send them out..We just found out whoever we were supposed to give them to already mailed them to the troops.. so here is a great way for us to be able to follow through.
Do they have to be only Christams cards?
Thanks for doing this.

I posted one card to the WCMDLSC08 (under "cotdsffs). I am making nine more which will be added to twenty other cards that I've already made which will be given to our church's Cards for Troops project taking place on October 25th. This project is where volunteers from our church stamp and assemble Christmas cards for the units of two of our members' relatives serving in Iraq. The cards are then used by those units to send home to their loved ones. The goal is 800-1000 cards. As a former member of the military and the spouse of a retired military officer, this is one project that I'm very invested in.

What an awesome project! I am honored to make cards for our troops. It is such a very small thing to do for them when they sacrifice so much for our freedom. Question - Do we need to put a stamp on the envelopes for them? Thank you for giving your time to coordinate such a worthwhile project. Blessings!

What an awesome idea. I've been wanting to do something special for the troops besides the "norm" that people do. This is terrific. I'm certain they will appreciate it. It's like 2 gifts in one. One they can receive and then turn around and give it to someone else. Thanks for organizing this. You're awesome!

I cannot imagine how hard it is for our Service men and women on a daily basis let alone having a special day like Christmas go by.. this is the time that all hearts 'should' be home. Thank You Gina for making it possible for us to do something to help them feel closer with their families, to bring those hearts home! You are a True Inspiration! Ü

I'm not sure I understand the extra envelope? I understand the card needs an envelope so they can mail it, but what is the other envelope for and what size should it be?
Thank you,
Lynne
Reply to this
I think I can explain......you need to have an envelope to mail your card in, right? And this card is to go to military away from home so that they can use it to send to a loved one at their home. They need an envelope to mail it in. So, that's 2 envelopes: one to mail it in and one so the military will have an envelope to mail it, too. These cards are not Christmas cards for the military to read/receive. Because most military overseas aren't anywhere they can buy a card to send home, these cards will be for them to use. Does this make sense? I hope so.

Can someone please help me? Why am I folding a second envie inside the card for the person to use? I made envies to go with the cards and will have them in a larger envelope to mail to Gina. I'm confused as to why I'm sending two blank envelopes per card.
I hope someone will be able to answer my question.
Thanks much,
Chris

I wondered myself at first but called & asked that question. Here's what I was told: The card will be inside one envelope and passed to a serviceman so that he/she will have a card to mail back home to a loved one. The other envelope, which should be folded & inside the card, will be the one the service member uses to mail that card to the states. I hope this helps......
Reply to this
Thanks so much for the explanation. It helped. I thought that they were all going in the large envelope. Each card would be in a clean white envelope which, in turn is in the big one. That's why I got confused.
I appreciate your help! Thank you! Are you only sending Christmas cards?
Thanks again!
Chris

I made only Christmas cards but that was because I had an extreme quantity of Christmas papers & embellishments left over from a project last year. I have sent other cards, through a different source, throughout the year. It's so rewarding and a great outlet to my passion for making cards but having only a few people to send them to.....
