Snowflakes.

Yesterday, I peeked my head out of my office only to see what looked like a blizzard. It really wasn't a blizzard but the snow was coming down so fast and furious that it seemed like we were in the dead of winter.

Of course, the ground was still a little too warm for it to really mean anything, but it reminded me of how close we are to snowy days in Wisconsin.

Today, I want to show you how easy it is to embellish snowflakes punched out from Marvy Snowflake punches. We carry these in our store and you will be amazed at how easy it is to draw a couple of straight lines to embellish these delicate flakes.

I decided to try my first flakes using our new vellum paper.

I began by punching out a couple of vellum snowflakes using the Mega and Extra Jumbo snowflake punches.

Next, I used the new Tim Holtz ruler, (coming soon to Gina K. Designs,) and a stardust glitter pen. Of course you can use any color Copic marker or sharpie to make your lines in color. But I thought I would just make pretty glitter lines on these vellum snowflakes.

I lined up the ruler and drew a straight line with my glitter pen. Then, I added the little off-shoot lines by hand. It took about half a minute to do the whole snowflake!

Look how pretty it looks when you layer a couple of them on top of each other. Here I used the large snowflake above with a small one that I embellished with a Copic Spica pen.

They are so delicate and pretty. You can use them as singles or layer them for a more dramatic effect.

Here is a close up of my snowflake card. I layered my vellum snowflakes on top of dark green ones to make them stand out more.

Card details:
Stamps- Seasonal Sayings (GKD)
Card stock- SU Hunter Green, Pure Luxury 80lb. white.
Paper- Basic Grey Figgy Pudding, Vellum paper
Ink- Memento Red
Other- Marvy punches, Bling and dazzle brads, Janome sew mini sewing machine, Stardust glitter pen

In my next example, I used Pure Luxury 80lb. white card stock and did the same thing using a turquoise Spica glitter pen.

I love the way the color pops off of the white silky smooth card stock.

Again, these three snowflakes were done in a split-second. Then, I added them to my card.

Not just for the holidays, snowflakes last all winter long! You can use snowflakes to make thank-you cards, birthday cards and "snow" much more. (Sorry, that was bad, I know! LOL!) And "joy" can mean "I'm happy for you!"

Here is my finished card.

Card details:
Stamps- Seasonal Sayings (GKD)
Card Stock- SU Chocolate Chip, Pure Luxury 80lb white
Paper- Lucky n' Love (Gina K. Designs store)
Other- Copic Spica pen, brads, Marvy snowflake punch, Memento black ink.

I hope you've enjoyed this snowflake tutorial. These is a super easy thing to do! If you can draw a line with a ruler, you can embellish many of the beautiful snowflake punches and dies that are available today!

Hugs,
Gina K
