a moment in time...

A roller-coaster ride. Highs and lows. This is the life of a young swimmer. Something as simple as your arms growing two inches can make you not recognize your own body. But you keep getting up on the block, because you are a swimmer.

Rina had some highs and lows this weekend at the State meet. She had the flu on Wednesday and was swimming the biggest competition of her season on Friday night. She was such a little trooper. After several tough events on Saturday, she swam 33 seconds faster than her best time Saturday night in her 1000 yard freestyle. She took 12th place. She was very pleased.

But the happiest part of the meet for her was not so much the success of that swim. She knows that we all have our good days and our bad days. (We need the bad days or we wouldn't know to appreciate the good ones.)

For Rina, the sweetest part of life is not the finish, but rather each well executed stroke that gets her there. And along the way, she's met some very special people.

To a great 2008-2009 short course season!
