Soot Stamping

Today on StampTV, check out the quick and easy technique called Soot Stamping.
I really couldn't wait to add this episode but I wanted to wait until fall because it's provides such a perfect backdrop for autumn card projects.

Here's a tiny snippet of this week's card project from StampTV!

Isn't that background fantastic! Another thing I love about this technique is that it's so cool for Halloween cards. With the right stamps, this background goes from warm and smoky to eerie and creepy!

This is another card using Alicia K.'s newest stamp set called Feel the Magic.
I love how the pumpkins look like they are floating in front of some scary ghostly images!

And I also love how the new nestabilities Fancy Tag dies swirl under the jute ribbon like a pumpkin's swirly vines. I added a Nestabilities Petite Oval layer on top to make the greeting area bigger.

Joining us tonight with special projects made with
AliciaK's Feel the Magic Stamp set  are:

Asela Hopkins
Carolyn King
Donna Baker
Emily Giovanni
Erika Martin
Jessica Fick
Melanie Muenchinger
Theresa Momber

Enjoy the blog hop and check out
StampTV a little later to see how you can create some fabulous Autumn cards with Soot Stamping too!

Hugs,
Gina K.

Love Alicia's new set and the hop was so fun! Does Alicia make cards or papercrafts? I just would have liked to see the artist's creation with her own set!

    Dear Gina:
I have to say that you have inspired me so much and have encouraged me to get back into my hobby after months of depression over losing my job after 14 years.
This black soot techique inspired me to experiment and I ended up with some interesting texture. Here is what i did, step by step (perhaps you want to try for yourself):
    MATERIALS
    - Brown paper bag
    - White glue (I used Aleene's tacky glue in the gold bottle)
    - Sponge brush
    - Heat gun
    - Lit candle
    - Piece of paper towel

    1. Take a piece of brown paper and cover it with a thick layer of white glue using a sponge brush.
    2. Use a heat gun all over the painted surface. You will notice that it will buble quite a bit. Continue applying heat until the glue is no longer white.
    3. Hold the dried glue surface to the lit candle (the same way you did with the glossy cardstock for the black sooting technique) until the whole surface is black.
    4. Buff with a paper towel all over the surface. The surface will then be semi-glossy and because of the texture of the glue you will end up with "craters, mountains and valleys".
It came out really interesting. I hope you will want to give it a try.
Thankn you for all the inspiration and motivation. You have a veru gentle demeanor which encourages me to tune in.
    Thanks again!

Great technique Gina! So much so that I had to rush off and try it. Anyway, it turned out great but neither sealant nor varnish were sufficient to seal it all off properly. Still, not to be outdone, I gave it a rub with paper towel to get the worst off and the result was just gorgeous! Thanks for the idea, even if it did turn out a bit different...
